“Mutant Football League 2 is a hard-hitting, arcade-style football game that combines intense gameplay, wisecracking mutants, weapons, deep strategy, and outrageous humor. Prepare yourself for the most insanely brutal football you’ll ever experience.”
Play Action Plays
For MFL 2, I worked on design document for Play Action and RPO plays. These are play types that are new to MFL 2. The objective was to implement something that would bring more variety to team playbooks. Play Action plays are designed to trick the defense into thinking the offense is going to run the football, when the offense is actually going to pass it. We cause the camera focus on the Running Back for a moment, then switch back to Quarterback to create the fakeout effect.
New Formations and Plays
There are many new formations and plays in MFL 2. One of the formations I made early in development was the Grit Formation. The formation is based on the Trips formation in real life football. The names of the plays in the formation are military themed. One play I created was called “Charlie Foxtrot”. The play is designed to have the two Wide Receivers draw the defender’s attention, leaving the Bruise Receiver (a.k.a. Tight End) open near the sidelines. The Bruise Receiver even waits a short moment for the receivers to start their routes. This maximizes the chances of him getting open for a pass.
